INTRODUCTION
The passion of sports has recently taken on a new dimension with the introduction of sports betting firms, most likely as a means of developing a network of sports enthusiasts and supporters. Supporting this view, Tade (2015) opined that sport betting is the practise of anticipating and predicting the outcome of sporting events or games in order to place a monetary stake or reward on them.
Today, internet betting is increasingly popular among young people aged 15 to 40, and even older individuals partake in it. Real (2017) assert that the main reason is that it provides rapid and simple income. However, the truth remains that internet gambling is gambling. It is not a job, but rather a means of destroying the lives and futures of young people. The notion of internet betting has spread like wildfire throughout the country, with no opposition from the government or security personnel. Many young people are becoming engrossed in the game, to the cost of their future. It's also shocking how many young secondary school and high school students are engaging in this behaviour.
According to statistics recorded Nettleton & Huang (2018) , 70% of Nigerian youngsters participate in sports betting. This means that a larger proportion of the youth population is becoming a gambler. There is currently no law governing the practise, nor is there any official policy against it. But the truth is that our youth's lives and future are at stake. The majority of the youngsters in this game come from low-income families and are subjected to negative social pressures. Children from wealthy houses who are supervised by their parents are exempt from this category. With the rate at which spot betting is rising unchecked, many young people's futures are in jeopardy. A gambler earns a living on the basis of hope. The research aims to assess the impact of sports betting on Nigerian youths. (A case study of chosen Warri youths)
